Can nexium create a false positive for Pancreatic cancer? A relative was recently told based on blood tests that she may have pancreatic cancer. She has consistently taken nexium and other drugs for acid reflux, migraines, and arthritis. Can these drugs or any for that matter cause a blood test to come back positive for pancreatic cancer?

Mark replied: "Only a biopsy can give a diagnosis of cancer, it was perhaps irresponsible of whoever told your relative that to do so; hopefully that is what the doctor suggested be done next, and then your relative will know what she does (or does not) have..."

Bozema replied: "Blood tests for presence of cancer are screening tests and are not 100% diagnostic of the presence of cancer. Biopsises and other tests need to be done to ensure a positive diagnosis. That said, blood tests look for specific proteins made by specific kinds of cancer cells. Medications are unlikely to give a false positive on this type of test. That does not mean that the blood test is 100% reliable however. It does mean that more diagnostic tests are needed."

mixing tylenol, abilify and nexium? is it ok to mix these medications. tylenol for migraines abilify for schizophrenia nexium for h. pylori stomach virus

hotwheels122287 replied: "i would definitely call the doctor for that..... or it SHOULD say on the bottle "do not mix with other medicines" (something along those lines)"

Mathew replied: "Hey, There are no reported interactions between these drugs, however, this does not necessarily mean no interactions exist. ALWAYS consult with your doctor or pharmacist. Hope this helps,"

really light colored stool is it cause for immediate concern? all day today i have been going number 2 and it is a really odd light brown color ... im a bit of a hypochondriac and im worried it might mean something serious?? i cant recall anything out of the ordinary ive been eating but i have been taking medicine for ulcers, nausea, and migraine (fioricet, nexium, reglan) ...its too late to call a dr now so any advice would be really helpful! im starting to think it might mean serious liver problem from taking too much medicine...

mtwaites replied: "If you are concerned that it is liver problems from taking too much medication, you need to make a doctor's appointment to discuss this. The stool also depends a lot on what you eat each day too."

Kris L replied: "The color if your stool is because of the color of the food you've eaten. I'll take bets that there is something you've eaten (chicken, perhaps) and also something in the nausea drugs you've taken recently that have made your stool paler than normal. Don't worry about it ... the pale stool is normal ..."

me for president! replied: "have you recently had a barium exray done on your stomach? If so then your stool would be very light.....almost white because of the liquid they give you. Otherwise, I assume its something you have eaten and just wait a few days to see if its better"

Lisa replied: "depends how light colored it is... you could simply be dehydrated, try drinking 8 cups of water a day. It could also be because of the medication you are on... try eating more fiber too since the meds you are on cause constipation"

EROS7776 replied: "You are, I assume, taking medicines prescribed for your headaches? Anyway, only take them as prescribed. If you are concerned about fatty liver, don't worry unless the stool is floating on top of the water. That is a dead give away for fatty liver. If so, you need to contact your doctor ASAP as this is a bad condition. Feel better."

Problems with xanax, chronic migraines, and GERD.? Ive had acid reflux for years, over the last 2 months its been pretty bad. Acid in my asophogus, chest, where the breastbone is, and up to my neck and throat. I have been on Nexium for about 3 weeks, small improvements, but still horrible chest pain. It would hurt so bad my heart would palpoltate, and id have i guess you can say panic attacks. my heart would race, chest would hurt, had trouble breathing, feet were numb and tingling, felt weak and tired. I eat once or twice a day, it hurts no matter what i eat. The doc put me on xanax about 2 months ago due what he claimed was anxiety. The past 2 weeks ive had this killer migraine that i cant shake. Ive taken all kinds of migraine meds, the doc told me due to me being dizzy is why i have migraines, gave me some dizzy pills, that made it worse. Theres tons of pressure in the front of my head, top, and sides, worst is back of the head, neck area. Ive tried all kinds of gerd diet tricks as well.. help? Thanks much friends. :-(

Chas replied: "Wow,,that's a lot to deal with!! Here are a few links I think you will enjoy. Good luck Panic and GERD info Migraine help Mental stress help and general medical Drug interaction tool And here's the xanex and just click on X and you'll see Xanex"

Debbie V replied: "Get rid of the regular docs and start consulting specialists. 1. Gastroenterologist 2. Neurologist 3. Psychiatrist If their meds are not working, and they can't help you in a reasonably short period of time, fire them and get new ones. Keep looking until you find doctors who can help."

MonTana Tiggs (Smokey) replied: "First of all find out how to get off xanax consult with a Dr on how to get off with it- do not just quit! I personally feel that You dont need xanax and if you are having side effects I say quit now! Here is what I think is going on with your headaches-- REBOUND HEADACHS - they CAN be as bad as migraines definition in simple terms: "rebound headache is a headache that you end up with just because you go in search of a little relief from the constant pounding in your noggin. ...You feel bad, so you take a pill — you feel worse, so you take another, and so on, and so on, and scoobie-doobie-do. Basically, you wind up with a headache because you're overusing medications I want to suggest this: Please go to a Gastroenterologist and ask for an exam, tell him you think it is your gallbladder- I am convinced and will bet on gallbladder disease.and Surgery was easier then I thought it was going to be BUT I AM SOOOO GLAD I GOT IT DONE! I know exactly what you are feeling and I am convinced! they removed it and I threw those meds away and was able to eat again!!! I ate the greasiest foods after surgery and I didnt get sick! and No more heartburn. I thought I would never say I hated pizza- but after surgery - it became my best friend-lol CALL FIRST THING TOMORROW PLZ I can share with you the tests, etc if you are interested- and the best thing was that they had told me -"the traditional cut" for gallbladder but they were able to do it laproscopically- so Recovery time was MUCH faster! Your symptoms sound so much like mine -it's not funny.... I am giving the utmost honest opinion and hope that you will consider calling First thing in the morning. The chest pains are nothing to fool with--oh yes, I know you dont want to, but try and keep hydrated- that could be causing the extreme heartburn --- Good luck and I hope you consider this"

my period came on a coulpe days early. And I'm having chest pain and pain all over? I know I have acid reflux and I ran out of nexium like 4 days ago. Now I'm taking Zantac. I have pain in my left arm and everything. I had my heart checked on before like twice. I know a person suppose to get they heart checked out every 3 years. I just had one last year the begging of the year they couldn't find anything. Now the symtoms is back? Also I'm having migraines, they started last year in Nov. I know I'm under stress. Do anybody go through this. IS it the weather have me in so much pain. Every time I go to the doc. they tell me I'm fine. Stop complaining all the time.I know I have a runny noise, kind of soar throat. My peroid is a really early.I probably just have a common cold with muscle pain and my reflux getting worse. Some 1 tell me something, please.

answerlady1021 replied: "If you're having chest pain, GO TO THE DOCTOR or emergency roon immediately. Do not pass go, do not collect $200 and DO NOT just post a question on the internet. Just because the previous checks didn't show anything, doesn't mean that chest pain is any less serious."

could this be migraine related ? help please? I have a 13 year old daughter who suffers from upper-GI problems. Her Doctor has been treating her for acid reflux. she takes Nexium am and pm along with watching her diet, etc. now this seems to be working. however, when her stomach is not bothering her she suffers from headaches...... puzzling. A Friend called and shared a similar situation of a girl her age. It was concluded that she suffered from what is called "reverse migraine". she was treated with Topomax and all symptoms are gone. has anyone heard of this? thanks for any and all help!

RobynGee replied: "Hi, I've never heard of reverse migraines. I've had migraines for over 15 years. I tried Topamax, and it didn't stop my migraines. I know a couple other women with migraines who tried it and it didn't work. So, it works for some people, but not all. It's an anti-seizure medication."

t replied: "Headache is a pain in the head, scalp or neck. Headaches can be caused by minor problems like eyestrain, lack of coffee or more serious reasons like head injury, brain tumors, encephalitis and meningitis. Taking painkillers continuously can have harmful side effects, so it is better to modify your lifestyle. More information available at"

lesherb replied: "I have never heard of reverse migraine. There is a diagnosis of abdominal migraine but since your daughter is flipping back and forth between head and stomach pain, I doubt that is what it is. I don't believe Topamax is given to minors for migraine prevention. It is a pretty powerful drug which has some considerable side effects. If your daughter's bouts of head pain are preventing her from participating in her regular activities, I suggest you see a pediatric neurologist (and if you can find one that specializes in head ache, all the better). I hope you find a proper diagnosis and a suitable treatment for your daughter. She deserves to enjoy her childhood."

I've been experiencing "brain shivers" for awhile now. Any help?? Hi out there. I have been experiencing what I've described as "brain tremors" or "brain shivers" and I don't know why. They started a few months ago. I have not taken any new medication, or come off any. The only meds I take regularly are Nexium 40mg, Benedryl, and Ortho Tri Crclene Lo. I told my doc about my feelings and he ordered an MRI which came back normal. He said they may be a kind of migraine. But they are occurring more frequently now, and I am concerned. What I feel is a brief "tremor" inside my head, followed by a period of dizziness, confusion and light-headedness. Usually they only last a few seconds. But just recently I had several during the night, and the dizziness and confusion has lasted for days. Anyone out there experience something similar? Or can give me any advise? I would appreciate it!! Thanks!

sunrise140 replied: "I experienced these when I was on a medication that lowered my blood pressure. I already have low-normal blood pressure, and lowering it was a somewhat rare effect for this medication. Unfortunately no one can really diagnose this over the internet, you need to go back to the doctor for more tests. This could also be anemia or any number of things."

Anyone else have this nausea issue and how do I resolve it? For a year now I have been in and out of the doctor's office and and had many tests run. I started throwing up last year in the middle of the night...with no apparent trigger. Tests showed I had reflux but nothing else (CT, upper gi with barium, endoscopy , etc.). I was put on Nexium, Prilosec, and Prevacid (not at the same time). One gave me a migraine and the Prevacid was soooo expensive. Then he switched me to Zantac which worked for a while. I have not had a throw up episode in months, but the nausea is till there...and it seems to be made worse by eating sweets. I had a few cookies the other day and was so nauseated by it. I had my blood sugar levels tested and they were fine too. Some nights I will go to bed with chills and nausea. I am down to eating soup for dinner as it seems to be worse at night. Its been a year and its difficult to live with! Anyone??? Yep...had allergy testing. No food allergies.

suzanne g replied: "Food allergies. Get tested."

I cannot belive all this stuff happening to me? I'd like to see folks if smoebody could tell what i ahve, coz doctors r useless sofar I am 29 years old male, i have had for couple of years mild pain in the back of the stomach that radiates to my upper back...i always tried to ignore it, since i was busy and in grad school, it was somethign i could tolerate, although i would have serious pain when i eat certain food or try to get full... Until, about three months ago, i began to experience pain and itchy throat , like there is a rubber band around my throat plus excess phlem, and i always wanna empty my throat....also along with that during the same, sometimes i would get sulfuric/metalic kinda taste like thre some foul paste in my mouth but there is hardly anything, well there is some thin thin white coating, but then the average person have them, not sure. the pain in my throat have constant for 2 months, the only time is better is in the morning. now, the pain is terrible but only after i eat, and i also get headache with that, however the headache is a weird one, unlike a typical headache or migraine. it is like there is tightning, with that my sinuses start hurting too , like in the bone kindoff. someimte the pain is so bad my red eye gets red. i went to my primary, ordered lot of tests, gave me Nexium, didnt do anything... Scanner in my abdomen, showed nothing , xray in my lung showed nothing, bllod tests of infection , negative....EGD , there is a slight eythma or redness which was identified as Gastritis...but i tell u it's has no bacteria H..I pylori that would cause a problem...so i was given Nexium again by the specialist nothing, switched to Protonix...no improvement. done also test for IgA for the gluetin intolerance, negative I'm at a loss...sometimes i begin to think it's not even related to my stomach or GI track i'm finding all the doctor useless at this point, they could not tell me what is wrong with my problem. i lost 35 lbs...i became skinny, i dont know if something they could not identify or it is just me avoiding to eat as much as possible becoz i know what waiting for me. i don't enjoy food anymore... it's the worst man

Suz C replied: "Sounds like the specialist you went to may have been a gastroenterologist, if not, you should start there. Also, have they considered a hiatal hernia, anxiety/stress (grad school) which could still give symptoms in the GI tract. May want to consider a low-dose antidepressant (which is given for some GI conditions) or an antianxiety med. Not sure where you are seeing your physicians but unfortunately many diagnoses are diagnoses of exclusion. They are only discovered when all others are ruled out. This means that the doctors are not necessarily useless just playing the "game". No fun, but true. Good luck."

Courtney F replied: "Okay, Celiac Disease is difficult to detect and can start at the mouth. There in an allergy detecting diet you could consider, rotation food diet, something like that, where you omit a lot of food types for three days then start adding them back in to see if there is a reaction. Worth trying, but it looks food related."

Heart Pacing/ Medical history included? Here are the details. I am a 21/f. I have had a history of thyroid disease but was tested again this summer and found my levels to be normal. I have abnormal stomach pain and am on nexium and spasmomem for that. -Had an upper GI and all they could find was spasms in the deodenal bulb --an endoscopy overseas showed some inflammation but all the doctor would say to me was "worry less. no more stress." --Have a history of depression and take Lexapro --Am on Loestrin for birth control and am good about taking my pills. Yesterday was the first day I forgot to take my pill as I was in very much pain from a migraine. My diet hasnt been consistent since moving overseas but i hope to get that under control soon. Its been pouring rain the last 3 days so I havent yet made it out to get groceries as I do not have a vehicle yet-- So I've been living off bread, butter, water, chocolate cereal, wine, soup. The last two days I have had the worst migraine pain (on top of a lovely lil eye stye infection..grr!) I woke up from a nap today with what felt like a pounding heart... Very loud and very strong. My heart has been racing for the last half hour. Any Suggestions? :( Im alone.. in a new country.. and without the option of seeing a doctor. I would really appreciate any helpful responses.

Colbert 08` replied: "Your diet is not the problem. Did you take your pill today? THe headache yesterday could be a result of the missed pill, the stress of moving and the barometric pressure fluctuation due to the rain and humidity. Your thyroid is probably alright, my guess is that it was low at one point which often accelerates the depression, which you say you have. Pounding heart beats are common in woman, (I have them) and take meds for them, eventually you will need to see a Dr preferably a Cardiologist, Birth Control pills often worsen heart problems and many woman are told not to take them. (I can not due to the increased PVC's that I get). A dr will do an echo cardiograph to check your heart rhythm, check for PVC's and check your Blood pressure and pulse. My educated guess will b he will instruct you to go off the pill, put you on atenol/tinormin, check your thyroid and change your anti depressant because this one is not working to its fullest capacity. You should be able to take a low dose children's aspirin (81mg) for the headache, that will work and should be harmless unless you have blood clotting issues or bleed easy. Make sure to take your nexium because aspirin can upset your stomach lining, but is a better choice because it will dilate the vessels in your head that are causing the headache vs tylenol will damage liver and not fix the headache, just mask it. I am not a Dr but I think i am pretty right about this.. But consider seeing a Dr soon, especially if this is the worst headache ever, your depression worsens, or you have severe chest pains too."

Char replied: "First of all with any medication you take you need to eat, have proper fluids instead of wine. Just because you are in a different country does not mean that there are not other ways of travel, ie:taxies, bus. There are even some grocery stores that have delivery. First and formost you need to eat and drink. (water, milk, juice). As soon as you can you do need to see a doctor."
